John Ilhan : A Crazy Life

In 2009, I co-authored my first book with my colleague Stephen Dabkowski, a former Business Editor at The Age. Writing the biography was an honour, and it was a privilege to work with Steve and John's family and friends.

At the time, Steve and I attended various radio interviews with the ABC, 3AW's Afternoon Show and SEN. It debuted on A Current Affair and also - thankfully - received a favourable book review with The Age. An excerpt of the book was published in New Idea, and you can listen to an MP3 of the SEN radio interview I did here.

"John Ilhan: A Crazy Life" is the rags-to-riches story of one of Australia’s best-known entrepreneurs. The founder of multi-millionaire telecommunications company - Crazy John’s- the book outlines John’s story as he began with nothing and rose to become one of Australia’s richest men. John passed away in 2007 at the age of forty-two, leaving behind his wife Patricia and four young children.

"When John passed away we lost a truly wonderful person who was a giant at everything he did and a truly free spirit. The amazing thing was he’d only just started to make his mark on the wider community."
       - EDDIE MAGUIRE, President, Collingwood Football Club

"He was loyal and he was friendly, but he was just a knockabout sort of guy. He was a very warm person, he also made people feel important. People gravitated towards him. John was just a great guy. We all miss him."
       - SHANE WARNE, Australian cricket legend
